Frequently Asked Questions

sunday dinner short film unknown movie

Can I direct the resulting film of the script I submit?

Yes.

Who owns the intellectual property (IP)?

The "crowd" of investors will collectively own 30% of the IP, and Unknown Movie LLC will own 70% of the IP.

What happens if you don't raise $185,000 by the deadline?

If we don't raise $185,000, we may still proceed if we raise $50,000, which is the minimum amount Wefunder will allow us to withdraw from the crowdsourced funds. If we don't raise $50,000 by January 1st, 2025, the investors receive their investments back.

What is The Film Fund?

The Film Fund is our sister company. Founder Thomas Verdi started The Film Fund to fund short films, and after receiving many inquiries about feature film funding over the past seven years, he decided to launch Unknown Movie to fund feature films, too. He made Unknown Movie a separate company from The Film Fund because it involves equity, whereas the short film contests run by The Film Fund does not involve equity.

How are you going to read so many screenplays?

We're using the patent-pending software, ProducerScore, to evaluate the screenplays submitted, and we will read the top ten screenplays as ranked by the software.

On what criteria are the screenplays evaluated?

The evaluation of projects will take into account industry-standard criteria and box office data. These criteria may include, but are not limited to, Character, Conflict, Craft, Dialogue, Logic, Originality, Premise, Structure, and Tone, each of which are further described here.
